Properties and Usage

Bitter orange is most noted today for its ability to aid with fat loss and to suppress the appetite. It contains synephrine in its juice and peel, which is similar in nature to ephedrine, in that it acts as a stimulant. It is also used today for colds and allergies, is known to be a bronchial dilator and stimulates the gastrointestinal and liver function, improves circulation and treats indigestion.

Synephrine has a thermogenic effect in the body, which can be useful in burning fat. It is recommended that you drink plenty of water when taking Bitter Orange as a supplement. Since synephrine is a stimulant, it may increase blood pressure if used as an isolated component, but when used as a whole (not chemically altered in a laboratory), it is believed that it can increase metabolic rate without affecting blood pressure or heart rate (although I couldn't find scientific evidence either way). Because it increases the body's metabolic rate, it increases your system's capacity to burn calories.

Citrus aurantium is anti-viral and may also have a cancer preventative action because of the high limonene and linalool components. These components also have a sedative and stress relieving effect.
