Galbanum

Galbanum was used historically as an antispasmodic, diuretic and pain-reliever.


The Lord told Moses in Exodus 30:34, "Take unto thee sweet spices, stacte (Myrrh), and onycha (Benzion liquid resin), and Galbanum; these sweet spices with pure Frankincense: of each shall there be a like weight. And thou shalt make it a perfume, a confection after the art of the apothecary, tempered together, pure and holy."

 

Plant Origin: Iran

Extraction Method: Steam distilled from gum resin

Key Constituents:

beta-Pinene 47.50%

alpha-Pinene 15.00%

delta-3-Carene 15.00%

Terpinolene 0.75%


Properties and Usage:

Galbanum is antiseptic, analgesic and light antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, circulatory stimulent and anticonvulsant.


It is useful for digestive issues including diarrhea, nervous tension, rheumatism, skin issues such as scar tissue and wrinkles.


 

Application:

Topical: Apply Galbanum on location or as desired

Inhalation: Diffuse (undiluted)

Internal: Dilute 50/50 with vegetable oil, put into a capsule and take up to three times daily or as needed (from Essential Oil Desk Reference)

 

Safety:

Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or UV light if applying to exposed skin. Avoid eye contact. In case of accidental contact, put a few drops of any pure vegetable oil in the eye. Water will not adequately dilute the oil. We’ve never known this to cause permanent injury or long-term discomfort, but if you feel concerned, please call your doctor if necessary.
